We will trace the origin and evolution of the wind, listen to its music and learn its key figures. For example: TRUMPET_Severinsen. UMass Minuteman Marching Band The work depicts episodes from the life of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), and features narration, using Twain's words, by our own voice professor William Hite. Membership is primarily from the Marching Band, but anyone can participate, including community members.
This will be an enjoyable way to learn more about the music we play in band. On Monday, March 9th, our graduate student James Minnix, will be conducting the UMass Symphony Band's performance which is James' Masters conducting recital. Since we will not be playing together, the format is changing to a survey of the wind band course. The University Community is particularly encouraged to join - everyone is welcome. In lieu of a performance, students will write 1 - 2 page reaction statements on the material presented in class. Emphasis is placed on the highest quality of performance and the development of ensemble technique.

Multiband Pops will, as always, be at the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on the UMass Amherst campus, showcasing 15 of our large and small ensembles. Because of this, Band Day, which was scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, will not be happening.
Band Day 2020 CANCELLED. Meets and performs in both the fall and spring semesters (one concert each semester) and features a wide variety of standard band literature. The class will meet on Zoom on Thursday evenings, 7:30 pm EST for approximately 1 hour. This concert is also at 7:30 in the Concert Hall. The Concert Band is open to all students at UMass Lowell and is a major ensemble within the Department of Music. Due to the covid-19 Pandemic and campus guidelines, the Minuteman Marching Band will be a virtual ensemble for Fall 2020. Regularly commissions and premieres new works and has recorded the wind music of David Maslanka and Charles Bestor on the Albany and Centaur CD labels.
