If you don't like subtitles, give it a miss, there's not a word of English in it. I truly cringed through the battle scenes in this movie because of it. Good Movie- Worth looking at! Great movie with a great soundtrack.
I must admit at over 4 hours for the feature I thought it might drag in places but it kept me completely hooked.
If you think you know John WOO's work then think again. Truly stunning to behold.
I wish the film maker hadn't used such cruel methods to get the horses to perform stunts. marvellous 4 hour epic with an epic climactic battle ; my only gripe are that the subtitles were quite fast to read. DM

A long and very involved film that deserves all the accolades heaped on it. It is directed by John Woo,knows how to direct an action movie. Whilst the scale and photography in this film are excellent, especially on Blu-Ray, I personally cannot abide a potentially spectacular war film being ruined by a few leading characters who have the miraculous capacity to single-handedly slaughter large numbers of the enemy, who stand around the hero waiting for their turn to be killed - it's just so ridiculous that it ruins an otherwise spectacular film. How John Woo shot this is nothing short of astounding. Buy it, watch it, love it. I watch old movies, and am familiar with some of the the ways that Hollywood used to use wires to get dramatic falls from horses.
